New: The Keen Terradora Ethos – a hybrid trailshoe

Keen is a brand that we have reported on on a number of occassions in the past at GearLimits. Who can forget the “How a UNEEK sandal is made” film we did? A brand that once started with making very good and cool sandals, but for the past few years also has been consistently making really good shoes for a very wide range of hiking related activities. In Keen’s terminology this is called Trailfit: you are active, adventurous, paths and trails are found in nature but also in the city. Multifunctional sport yet fashionable shoes. That’s the goal.

Last year we reviewd the Keen Terradora shoe. The Keen Terradora performed really wel in terms of fit and comfort, and the looks were also something that our reviewer Rinske really liked.

And this year Keen has come with a renewed and more extensive Terradora collection (exclusively for women). The Ethos is Keen’s flagship product in this collection that is completely focused on summer; to be worn in warm weather, where ventilation and good breathability for the shoe is important; but the shoe should also be able to deal with water quite well.

The Ethos just looks really cool. It is a low shoe, with an almost sandal-like look from the side. The upper work is completely open in parts; that will certainly ventilate well but will cut down on watertighness, to say the least. The PFC free sythetic material is water resistant and Keen says that the lining will dry quickly.

The lace system is also very reminiscent of the systems that Keen uses on sandals. The sole has a deep profile that should provide good grip on trails. The shape of the sole is most similar to a running shoe. My conclusion is that I think the Ethos mainly resembles a crossover / hybrid form between sandal and trailrun shoe.

I would also like to mention the Terradora WP Mid. In this collection it has been renewed, with a new color scheme that I found cool. As the suggests, the shoe is of mid height to provide extra support to your ankles. The WP in the name indicates the shoe is waterproof. This is more a actual hiking boot of which Keen also has a separate leather version.

Kortom, weer een gave collectie waarvan we de komende tijd hopen het een en ander te kunnen reviewen. Voor meer info of om naar de schoenen te shoppen check:
