Review: POC Opsin Clarity Comp Ski/Snowboard goggles

I used the POC Opsin Clarity Comp Ski Goggles in combination with the POC Obex BC Spin helmet. Due to the changing weather and light conditions in the week that I used it, I got a good impression of the goggles. I used both the standard “Spektris Blue” lens and a low light / bad weather lens.

As said, very variable weather conditions in the week at the end of December in Bad Kleinkirchheim. From full fluffy snow showers on one day, through wet snow on the other to wonderfully sunny weather and then turning cloudy again. Temperatures from just below to just above zero.

The Opsin Clarity Comp is actually designed for “competition settings” according to POC. Where you need to be able to see a lot of detail and contrast at high speeds. But even without a competition element, those properties in a lens for regular skiërs or snowboarders are super relevant.

I did many fast descents on the slopes. But also treeruns where you also have to be able to see quickly what is happening to be able to adapt your ride. The frame of the lens is available in four different colors: Hydrogen White, Uranium Black, Amatist Purple en Fluorescent Orange.

Basically, the view of the lens developed in collaboration with Carl Zeiss is very good. The lens extends far to the side of your head and you have a very wide field of vision. In clear and sunny weather, the lens is sufficiently sun-resistant and you indeed see very well. Even when you ride into shadows you keep a good contrast-rich image.

With more cloudy weather and flatter light the visibility was less good. So I then switched to the “No Mirror Clarity” low light lens that you can easily change around, and had significantly better vision. There have also been times (when I did not have the low-light lens with me) when I saw too little in fairly dense snow showers and chose to ride without the googles over my eyes. Which normally I wouldn’t do at all.

The goggle is not necessarily made to match the Obex BC helmet that I wore, but it fit well and there was little space between helmet and goggle. The “triple-layer” soft foam padding is comfortable on your face. Especially in the warmer weather I did not notice that it was getting too hot. So as far as I’m concerned, the goggle also ventilates well.

POC indicates that the goggle is anti-scratch. Nevertheless I have a big scrape on the lens. No idea when and how that happened, but after use it is advisable to put the goggle in its pouch and store it away. Since you pay € 150 for these goggles, it is worth handling them carefully.
