Review: Primus Lite+, a very efficient burner

I used to want to play tennis immediately with my new tennis racket, I always want to ride my mountain bike, getting a new tent, means I’m going camping asap! The effect of really good products is that I can’t wait to use them as much as possible.

The Primus Lite plus burner is such a product. It makes me want to drink tea (I don’t drink coffee myself), much more often than normal. Because of that nice hot drink in your belly, but also because using the burner is such a pleasure. I just love very well made and almost perfectly functioning gear.

I used the burner during a hiking trip through the Fochteloërveen in the Netherlands and camping holiday in the Belgian Ardennes and extensively in Sweden. Temperatures between 12 and 35 degrees, with and without wind.

Ease of use

One of the things that is most striking is the absolute user-friendliness of the Primus Lite+. It starts with the stability of the whole. With a locking mechanism, you actually click the aluminum pot itself to the burner stove, which fit on and in each other, so that you get a very stable and also heat-efficient connection. And at the same time, that connection ensures that wind has virtually no hold on the flame. The built-in Piezo ignition works perfectly all the time, the flame ignites with one click.

Laminar Flow Burner Technology

Responsible for the efficiency (1500W power) and also for the fact that the burner itself maintains a very low profile, is the Laminar Flow Burner Technology where you actually have a kind of waffle structure (just like in a central heating system). This gives you a lot of surface area and an enormous amount of heat transfer from the flame to the stove. Which in turn means that your water boils very quickly.

The pot holds over 500ml of water in the burner and it takes around 3-4 minutes for the water to boil depending on how high you set the flame and how cold your water is when you start. Enough for two large cups of tea. It is important that you don’t pour the water above the 500 ml mark. Otherwise, the water can boil over the lid when it starts boiling and turning down the flame as boiling water scalds your hand is no fun at all.

I mainly used the stove to make tea, but we also made some nice coffee in the morning during a nice hike through the Fochteloërveen. You can make a nice pot of coffee with the optional coffee press, I have been assured.

The sleeve (available in a variety of colors) that envelops the pot is heat-resistant (G-1000 with felt lining) so that you can easily handle the heated pot to pour the boiling water, or you can use the pot itself as a mug. You can also use the safety handle for hanging the boiler.

With a 100ml tank, you can pack the burner and the gas tank into the pot put the lid on and pack it. Very compact so and with 390 grams (excl. tank) not too heavy.

The stove burner can also be used in combination with other pots or pans, using the three studs that are smartly attached to the handle and which you can screw into the burner.

As said, because it works so well, you really feel the urge to use the stove. I took it with me while canoeing, it was front and center during the entire camping period and, whether it is for tea or cooking water for pasta or vegetables, you have boiling water in no time. My wife insisted that her opinion was also mentioned in this review (that never happens) namely: the Primus Lite+ is just a great product!

The Primus Lite + is an excellent, highly efficient burner that is very easy to use. Stable and safe. It’s just great when a product works all but perfectly.
