1985 Throwback Ski vs Snowboard

In 1985 skiers had nothing to do with snowboarders. In the early years, it was not even allowed for snowboarders to use the ski lifts. After the first world championship in 1987, snowboarding became popular and accepted. The ‘snowboard’ has undergone considerable development in the following years to the snowboards as we know them today.

The first Dutch snowboarder of significance was Thedo Remmelink. He won five World Cup races and was third in the final classification in giant slalom in the 1994/95 season and second in the slalom. One season later, he finished third in the final classification of the general world cup. Remmelink participated in the Winter Olympics in 1998 in Nagano where he finished tenth in the giant slalom (source Wikipedia).
