Arc’teryx & Gore-Tex Pro: the best of both worlds?

Since 1995, Arc’teryx and Gore-Tex have developed one of the most important and innovative collaborations in the outdoor industry. Arc’teryx brings design ideas and athlete feedback, Gore-Tex brings their science and technology.

This is how Gore-Tex Pro with Most Rugged Technology came to be. Using more durable face fabrics and leveraging a new membrane that better resists abrasion and contamination, it delivers serious storm protection for a seriously long time.

The membrane technology

The membrane has lots of pores, over 9 billion per square inch to be exact. It acts like a lid over a pot of boiling water. Too solid of a lid and the steam builds up. No lid gives no protection. But with a fine mesh lid, steam can escape but large particles can’t get in.

Arc’teryx & Gore-Tex Pro: het beste van twee werelden?

The new membrane has an additional polyurethane (PU) layer that gives higher resistance to oil contamination. Gore developed a new process for fabrication that keeps it breathable, to keep you moving. This means it maintains waterproofness longer. It also means in our jacket designs, we were able to remove the inside neck guard.

The iconic Arc’teryx Alpha SV jacket

Back in 1998, Arc’teryx launched their first outerwear piece, the Alpha SV Jacket. It went on to revolutionise the outdoor industry and remains an iconic piece for the brand. A proven performer in severe alpine conditions, and built to withstand years of use, its quality and durability are legendary.

Ines Papert already tested our new Alpha SV Jacket during an Ice climbing trip in Norway. Here are a few words from our athlete: “The jacket was in action every single day, storm after storm. Due to the fact that the jacket is light but durable, I used it all the time. Climbing Ice and mixed is quite demanding for the fabric of your clothing. This jacket kept me warm and dry but still allowed me to move hard and to send some difficult climbing.”

RECCO Reflector-technology

Starting this fall, all Arc’teryx Gore-Tex Pro Jackets are equipped with RECCO Reflector Technology. Our athlete Will Gadd knows firsthand that when it comes to accidents in the mountains, every second counts. Read more about the importance of the technology here and watch the video.
